Herkunft und Entstehung
K-Pop kommt aus der südkoreanischen Hauptstadt Seoul und begann in den 1990ern Jahren und wurde sowohl von Trot, dem traditionellen koreanische Popstil der 1960-1980er mit emotionalen Texten und eingängigen Melodien als auch von dem Western Pop und Rock, der ab den 1980ern koreanische Musiker prägte, beeinflusst. Auch die Band Sea Taiji and Boys aus 1992 kombinierte Hip-Hop, R&B, Techno und Rock mit koreanischen Texten gilt als Meilensteil. Gute sind große Unterhaltungsagenturen wie SM Entertainment, YG Entertainment, JYP Entertainment und Big Hit/Hybe Entertainment bekannt dafür, das Idol-System zu stabilisieren. Als 2012 PSY seinen Song „Gangnam Style“ veröffentlichte, wurde dieser zum weltweitem Phänomen. Daraufhin startete BTS 2018 nicht nur in Südkorea Konzerte zu geben, sondern ging weltweit auf Tour.
Die koreanischen Musiker werden mittlerweile Idols gennant und sind nicht nur mehr Sänger sonder auch Tänzer, Entertainer und Performer. Die Tänze sind sehr unterschiedlich, doch ähneln meistens Hip-Hop-Choreografien. Die Gruppen legen Fokus auf synchronisierte Choreografien. Die Bewegungen sind entweder kraftvoll, verspielt, sinnlich oder dramatisch. Typische Bewegungen sind Body rolls, Pops, Rocks, Slides und Arm- und Beinbewegungen im Rhythmus. Häufig gibt es „Signature Moves“, die den Tanz ikonisch machen.

It was influenced both by Trot, the traditional Korean pop style of the 1960s to 1980s with its emotional lyrics and catchy melodies, and by Western pop and rock, which started shaping Korean musicians in the 1980s. The band Seo Taiji and Boys, formed in 1992, is considered a milestone for combining hip-hop, R&B, techno, and rock with Korean lyrics. Major entertainment companies such as SM Entertainment, YG Entertainment, JYP Entertainment, and Big Hit/Hybe Entertainment are known for establishing and stabilizing the idol system. When PSY released his song Gangnam Style in 2012, it became a global phenomenon. Following this, BTS began touring not only in South Korea but also worldwide in 2018.
Korean musicians are now called idols and are not just singers but also dancers, entertainers, and performers. The dances vary widely but often resemble hip-hop choreography. Groups focus on synchronized routines, and the movements can be powerful, playful, sensual, or dramatic. Typical moves include body rolls, pops, locks, slides, and coordinated arm and leg movements. Many routines also feature “signature moves” that make the dance iconic.
